Despite the promising future use of stem cells, extensive research over the last decade has shown how the augmentation of, e.g., damaged tissue not only depends on the inherent potential of stem cells to adjust and differentiate, but also on the presence of the right micro-environment where the cells reside. Marco Thio of EMCM examines the current methods by which tissue grafts are manufactured, presenting also a promising new method based on carbon dioxide that has been shown to be very effective in cleaning and sterilising tissue grafts.
