The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the
outcome of many years of negotiation aimed at harmonising
the EU countries’ approach to data protection issues.
Currently in a transitional phase, the GDPR came into
force in May 2016, but is scheduled to take effect in all
member states on 25 May 2018. Whatever the nature of
an organisation, it is very unlikely that it won’t be affected
in some way by GDPR. Mark Lumley at Shulmans and
Mark Stevens at Formpipe explain the importance of
understanding the potentially all-encompassing scope of
the legislation and the consequences of non-compliance.
