Validation marks significant step in company’s sustainability journey and reinforces its commitment to taking science-aligned climate action to reduce its carbon footprint.
Holmes Chapel, UK, 16 September 2025 — Bespak, a specialist inhalation contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has set approved net-zero and near-term company-wide emission reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combatting the climate crisis.
The climate emergency requires urgent action. Science-based targets offer companies a clear, actionable path to align emission reductions with the Paris Agreement goals, which seek to limit global warming to 1.5°C. SBTi has validated Bespak’s scope 1 and 2 emission reduction targets alongside its scope 3 near- and long-term targets, which are based on an economic intensity reduction, with a near-term target of 2033 and long-term target of 2050.
The SBTi has approved the following targets:
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 54.6% by 2033.
- Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions intensity by 61.1% by 2033.
- Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions intensity by 97% by 2050.
These targets were assessed and validated against the SBTi’s methodology and global net-zero frameworks.
This validation marks a significant step in Bespak’s climate journey and reinforces its commitment to taking science-aligned climate action to reduce the impact of the most emission intensive areas of its carbon footprint. This includes the use-phase of sold products, purchase of capital goods & services, and upstream transportation and distribution.
This announcement comes as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) releases its latest climate science, prompting the United Nations (UN) to emphasise that the 1.5°C threshold is ‘perilously close’. Pursuing the most ambitious path is the only way to prevent exceeding this threshold, with rapid and deep emission cuts vital to halving global emissions before 2030 and achieving net-zero before 2050.
Chris Hirst, Bespak CEO, commented: “At Bespak, we are striving to embed sustainability across our entire business. The validation of our near-term and net-zero targets with the SBTi marks an exciting milestone in our sustainability roadmap, and we are proud to join this global movement for ambitious corporate decarbonisation.”
Benedicta Bakpa, Head of ESG at Bespak, said: “Receiving approval on our near-term and net-zero targets from the SBTi means that Bespak’s actions are aligned with a science-based, credible pathway to decarbonisation. We are proud to be integrating sustainability across our value chain, with more detail available in our 2024 ESG Update.”
